Estimate starting sitting and standing keyboard-height targets from your height, then tune them to relaxed elbow position.

Desk Height Calculator for Sitting and Standing

This estimate is a planning aid. Product fit still depends on your room, routine, and product limits.

Estimated ergonomic range

  • Sitting desk height: about 17 in
  • Standing desk height: about 40.1 in
  • Fine-tune by elbow angle and shoe height.

Treat the result as a starting keyboard height

The estimate scales from total height, but arm, torso, leg, shoe, and chair proportions differ. Set the keyboard near relaxed elbow height, keep shoulders down and wrists neutral, then adjust the desk rather than forcing the body to match the number.

Measure the complete sitting and standing setup

For sitting, include chair height and whether the feet rest flat or on a footrest. For standing, include shoes, an anti-fatigue mat, desktop thickness, and any keyboard tray. Confirm that the desk reaches both positions without operating at an uncomfortable limit.

Set the monitor separately

Keyboard height controls the hands and shoulders; monitor position controls viewing distance and neck posture. Use the display stand or a compatible monitor arm to tune the screen without raising the keyboard surface too high.

Planning questions

Is the calculated desk height exact?

No. It is a screening estimate. Fine-tune it around relaxed elbow position, neutral wrists, comfortable shoulders, chair fit, shoes, and the actual keyboard thickness.

Why is my current desk different from the estimate?

Chair height, arm proportions, desktop thickness, keyboard trays, shoes, and floor mats all change the real working surface. Comfort and neutral posture matter more than matching a generic number.
